Wallpaper removal tips

Follow this section to achieve the quickest wallpaper removal with Wallwik SimpleStrip.

Check Before You Start

Peel back the wallpaper at a corner of a seam. Sponge or spray water on a corner, if needed, to loosen. You can then tell how many layers of paper are involved, the type of paper, (such as solid vinyl, vinyl coated or 100% paper) and whether the wall has been primed by painting. For solid vinyl or foil wallcoverings, pull the paper from the wall, (do not score) then use the Wallwik system to remove the paste.

Preparing Walls

Remove everything possible from walls, except covers over electrical outlets or switches. Use small pieces of masking tape to cover openings of electrical outlets. You will be able to remove the wallpaper up to the edge of the cover, and by taking the cover off, you can remove the remaining paper when the wall dries. Turn off circuit breakers or remove fuse before removing any cover plates.

Step 1: Scoring the wallpaper using the Wallwik Scoring Tool

Wallwik’s patented wallpaper scoring tool has a unique action which is safe to use on drywall. The special spikes pluck and pull the wallpaper outwards. For best results score the wallpaper thoughtly keeping the score marks less than 1/2 inch apart

Step 2: Soaking the Wallwik sheets and placing them onto the wall

Fill a large pail with warm water and mix with Wallwik Power solution. Briefly soak the Wallwik sheets in the pail. For stubborn wallpaper mix a stronger solution. Place the wet wallwik sheets onto the wall. The surface tension of the water in conjunction with power solution prevents them from falling down

Step 3: Strip

Spray the Wallwik sheets to keep them moist. When the wallpaper can be gently pulled away from the wall, remove the Wallwik sheets and place back into the pail ready for the next section. Immediately pull the wallpaper away from the wall. The wallpaper can be removed in whole sheets or large pieces. The Wallwik sheets are hard-wearing and can be used over and over.
